Tourist destinations like yasaka jinja were really close to the hotel. Lobby bar is a very nice plus. The location was GOOD there. Free parking onsite was provided.

one of our favorite spots sanjusangendo temple was next to this place. we liked staying at kyoto kokusai. marutamachi subway station was only a short distance to the hotel. higashiyama ward district is worth your attention.
Don’t have any issues at all.

The rooms are big and spacious by Japanese standards. They feature a very 60s interior deco, including radios!
It's not particularly central, and there are not that many good places to eat in the vicinity.

Handy ice machine next to the room. Spacious room and nice staff.
Room needs to be refurbished as it looks outdated.

I liked mostly the location of the hotel in front of the Nijo Castle. Easy access to bus and subway.
Old fashion furniture.

The buffet breakfast was enjoyable and delicious. One of the female receptionists were very polite.
We didn't like the strong smell of cigarette smoke throughout the hotel and the fact that people were permitted to smoke in the lounge area on the first floor. The air conditioning did not work properly.

Just opposite a great Kyoto attraction, Nijo Castle and the train station. The staff at the hotel was extremely knowledgable about the sights in Kyoto and gave very good suggestions.

The good location of the hotel
Even though we requested a non smoking room, we received a smoking room since the hotel was fully booked. We couldn't stay at the hotel comfortably. The hotel could have actually informed us if there is no more non smoking room available, so we could find other hotel, but they didn't bother do that

The hotel is opposite Nijo castle and you can easily catch a bus (with 3 bus lines) from the front of the hotel to Kyoto station (about a 15-20 minute ride). The subway station is also quite close, about a 10 minute walk away. Rooms are a decent size and good value for money.
The hotel is quite big and busy and seems to cater to local tourists. The decor is more functional than pleasing - the place is slightly shabby looking - but it wasn't something that bothered us as we were out most of the time.

Spacious room with great view. Close to subway and local JR train station, but a bit far from real downtown area with restaurants and bars.

The girl at the reception was extremely kind and spoke perfect English. Her suggestions on what to see and where were all excellent! The bell-boys were also quite kind. The hotel is conviniently located right in front of Nijo Palace. There's a 10-15min walk to the closest JR station (Nijo Station), from which you can easily go to the main Kyoto station. Some shinkansen stop at Nijo too. Free wi-fi at the lobby (not easy to find in Japan).
The room was quite small (following Japanese standards)
